frequently asked questions

How long are therapy sessions?

Therapy sessions typically last 50 minutes.

How frequent are sessions?

You will agree upon a plan for frequency of sessions after meeting with your therapist and receiving a recommendation. Most people attend therapy weekly when beginning a therapeutic relationship and working on a specific issue and then taper as issues improve.

What should I expect when beginning therapy?

Following a 20 minute phone consultation, the therapy process begins with an intake session where your history and unique needs will be considered. This will be followed by a planning session to establish the goals and objectives of therapy moving forward. These initial sessions also provide an opportunity for you to determine fit and connection with your therapist. It is important to know that beginning therapy can feel daunting and overwhelming and it may take some time to feel connected and able to be vulnerable. Therapy can feel like hard work and it is important to initially commit to following through with regular sessions (as agreed upon in the planning session). At times you feel better after you leave a therapy session, but at times you can feel worse, as we uncover deep-seated issues and emotions. This is normal.

What paperwork should be completed prior to an appointment?

Please complete the initial intake form and bring it to your first intake appointment or email it to your therapist in advance. You will complete additional forms to begin the therapeutic relationship during the initial intake.

Can I contact you between sessions?

You are welcome to contact your therapist by email or phone to discuss issues in between sessions. We are available for contact during business hours only and if phone contact exceeds 15 minutes, we will bill to the nearest 30 minute increment. If you are having an emergency or need immediate crisis assistance outside of business hours, it is important to go to the ER or call the Colorado Crisis Line at 844-493-TALK (8255).
